Summary We identified an issue that could cause Base nodes to calculate an incorrect state root. We’ve verified the current state root is correct and users were not affected. We immediately fixed the Base block builders and released the patch to all node operators.
What happened On November 4, 2026, a bug was discovered in Reth that could, in some cases, make a node compute an incorrect state root. The upstream fix is github.com/paradigmxyz/reth/pull/28264. Base is built on Reth, so we applied the same mitigation immediately.
What we did - Verified the chain. We recomputed the state root and confirmed it is correct. - Relied on our proof system as a second check. Base's proof system uses an independent implementation to verify every state root, so it would have caught a mismatch like this. - We patched all builder nodes the same day, so no new blocks could be impacted. - Shipped a fix to prevent base validators halting on invalid state roots in v1.5.3.
Action for node operators We recommend upgrading to v1.5.3. This removes the halt risk described above. You don't need to resync or take any other action.
